Unemployment relief was in Germany a national social security benefit, which was financed from tax proceeds and disbursed by the federal agency for work on behalf the federation.

After discussion for many years, which was led under the key word Hartz IV, the unemployment relief was combined into 1 January 2005 with the social welfare assistance under the designation unemployment pay II.

Presuppositions for claim

Requirement on unemployment relief had who

was needy,
was unemployed,
at the disposal was to the work agency,
at the labour office had unemployed announced itself,
within the Vorfrist (one year before filing of an application) at least had referred one day unemployment pay or unemployment relief,
no requirement on unemployment pay had.

Requirement duration

In principle the requirement on unemployment relief was temporally unlimited, it in grant sections so mentioned by one year was granted. The meant, which after one year each renewed with for continued payment of the unemployment relief had to be placed. With each filing of an application the presuppositions for claim were again examined.

Height of the unemployment relief

The achievement set was lowered several times. It amounted to 53% and/or 57% of the achievement payment last. Unemployed persons received the increased achievement set, if they or their spouse/life partner a child in the sense "§ 32 exp. 1, 3 to 5 income tax act had.

The unemployment relief was taxfree. The subscriber was allowed to exercise or several additional job (EN), as long as it remains with these occupations altogether under weekly work time of 15 and/or with independence under 18 hours.

There was a monthly free allowance of 165, - euro. If the supplementary income exceeded this free allowance, the exceeding amount was taken off from the unemployment relief.

Disbursements took place without use of cash and retroactively, i.e. at the end of the monthly; in exceptional cases a first was possible.

Contrary to the unemployment pay the unemployment relief was likewise reduced around the income of a possible spouse/partner exceeding a free allowance.
