The social security forms the most important institution of the social safety device in Switzerland. It is mostly a compulsory insurance. For the inhabitants a liability to insure mostly exists.

Branches of social security

Different branches of social security exist in Switzerland eleven. There is this:

Constitutional bases

The bases of the social security are in kind 111 to 114 as well as kind 116 and 117 of the Swiss Federal Constitution.

In kind 111 the so-called "“three-column principle"” is specified that regulates the structure of the age, the leaving and invalid precaution. Into the kind 112 the basis for the age, leaving and invalidity insurance, in kind 113 that is to the vocational precaution. Kind 114 regulates the basis of the unemployment insurance, in kind 116 regulations for the family allowances and the maternity insurance is set up. In kind 117 the ill and accident insurance are finally regulated constitutionally.

"“Three-column system"”

"“The column system"” the precaution represents three against the economic consequences of age, death and disablement.

Financing

The social security is financed mostly by deductions from the wages. The employer takes the contributions off for the social security from the wages. The contributions are oriented at the income. They are carried thus in each case "“in equal numbers"”, to the half by employers and employees. With the vocational precaution it is usual in many companies that the employer pays a larger portion than the employee.
