Sulfate-floats (or also Ettringittreiben) is a harming reaction, which concrete destroys. When sulfate driving the clinker material calcium aluminate hydrate reacts with sulfates, which occur for example in the soil or in (off) It comes to a volume increase of up to 300 per cent. The result are very large mechanical stresses, which lead to flakings. Ettringitkristalle are to be stored able up to 32 water molecules.

The sulfate driving is the strongest driving reaction in the concrete. A possibility of preventing this harming reaction is the use of special cements, which by the additive HS (high sulfate resistance) are marked.

For concrete surfaces damaged by sulfate driving the map-like tear picture is typical.
