Freiwillige of contributions are contribution periods after "§ 55 exp. 1 sentence 1 SGB VI.

In accordance with paragraph 1 "§ 7 SGB of the VI insurance is necessary into the German old age pension insurances the following conditions for the freiwillige.

Persons, who desire the freiwillige insurance, must

  • not insurance requiring in the German old age pension insurance its
  • 16. Lebensjahr completed.

Persons, who are Versicherungsfrei1 or from the insurance befreit2,

  • must the general Wartezeit3 ("§ 50 exp. 1 SGB VI) of 5 years with beginning of the freiwilligen insurance fulfill.

Subscribers of an old-age pension are excluded from the freiwilligen insurance

Freiwillige insurance

(1) Persons, who insurance requiring are not, can do itself for times of the completion 16. Lebensjahres on voluntarily insure. This applies also to Germans, which have their usual stay abroad.

(2) Persons, who are released from the insurance exempt from compulsory insurance or, can insure themselves voluntarily only if they fulfilled the general waiting period. This does not apply to persons, who are exempt from compulsory insurance because of insignificance of an occupation or an independent activity.

(3) After binding grant of a full pension because of age or for times of the purchase of such a pension a freiwillige insurance is not permissible.

Contribution periods

(1) Contribution periods are times, for which after Federal Law compulsory contributions (compulsory contribution times) or freiwillige contributions were paid. Compulsory contribution times are also times, to which compulsory contributions apply according to special regulations as paid.

On this time compulsory contribution times and spare times are taken into account.
