Concrete cancer is since beginning of the 1990er years an expression of the German boulevard press for the alkali silicic acid reaction in the concrete. This designation is disputed in the professional world, since the damage mechanism does not have parallels to the cancer in the medicine.

In Austria and Switzerland the term is used more frequently as synonym for the alkali silicic acid reaction than in Germany.
