An annuitant (spoken Rentjee, from the French ) is a person, who lives on regular payments from capital put on or the farm lease of country. It is a name for pensioners, become outdated in the meantime.

In the medieval France up to the revolution (ancien regime), the annuitant middle class belonged to the small Oberschicht, which was above all beneficiary of the work of the rural population. The annuitants belonged to the wealthy part of the third very heterogeneous conditions, consisting not only of rich bankers, basic gentlemen and manufacturers but also of farmers and beggars.

Among other things franc Wedekind in that uses this term 1891 drama of "spring awaking" appeared.
